Luis Morales teamed up with Christian Santa with 3 minutes left to ensure the Wildcats’ win last night. The first half saw Morales get an early goal against the Bremen Lions. Riley kept pressing for more with several near misses. Marco Alvarez came close but was denied by the keeper around the 15th minute mark. The Wildcats had several corners but could not get another goal. Then as the game was beginning to get even with chances at both ends, Morales found space on the left and with a lofted ball sent to him broke behind the defense and fought his way to the Lion’s goal where he slotted it by the keeper. The interval saw the Wildcats up by 2 goals. After the break, it was Christian Santa from 20 years out with solid shot that the Bremen Keeper never saw coming. Riley 3 Bremen 0 With the Wildcats pressing for more though, the game turned as the Lions found space and got their first goal. With renewed energy the Lions then pressed and were awarded a free kick just outside the box. The ball made it in the net and now it was 3-2. Sensing that they could now tie the game the Bremen Lions kept going and got their equalizer with 5 minutes left.
It was then that the Riley Wildcats woke out of what must have seemed like a bad dream and it was Dan Paulino-Salazar that got a ball to Santa who then made the space , beat two defenders along the endline and lifted a cross to a Morales who was making a bending run at the fall post. Wildcats get the win. Next up will be the Sectionals, with Riley facing Clay Monday October 3rd @ 6pm in the Penn Sectional.
