ELKHART – The (2-5) Concord Minutemen played host to the (6-0) South Bend Riley Wildcats on Tuesday in Elkhart. The Riley Wildcats would be looking to remain undefeated entering Friday’s non-conference matchup with the crosstown Adams Eagles.

The Wildcats began the game strong on offense scoring 19 points in the first quarter. However, Coach Johnson was not satisfied with the Wildcats defense as they gave up consecutive threes to end the quarter. Early in the second, the Riley Wildcats would break out, dunking the ball four times in the matter of a few minutes. The Wildcats would take a 37-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. A combined 20 points between the second and third quarters for the Minutemen led Riley to their sixth straight win to open the season. Riley defeats Concord 73-51.

Junior Forward Damezi Anderson has now led the team in scoring all six games this season after tallying 26 in Tuesday’s win. Only one other Wildcat would reach double figures as Junior Forward Rylen Grundy would score 12 points.

South Bend Riley takes on the (3-2) South Bend Adams Eagles on Friday. If any team has the combination of size and speed to take down this Riley ballclub, it’s these Adams Eagles. The combination of Junior Forward Walter Ellis, Senior Guard Michael Green, and Senior Forward Kyreece Parker is sure to give the Riley Wildcats a tough test on Friday.

South Bend Riley Head Coach Mark Johnson likes to believe, “If we play our game, there’s nobody that can beat us.” Well we may find out on Friday as the Adams Eagles play an almost identical brand of basketball. Final from Dunlap, Elkhart County: South Bend Riley 73, Concord 51.
