BAUGO – (13-0) 6-0 NIC Riley visited (0-11) 0-6 Jimtown on Friday in search of their 13th straight victory to open the season. That 13th win, would tie the 1972-73 Wildcat basketball team for the best start in school history.
Riley scored the first 11 points of the contest, then the Jimmies would weather the storm. The 12-10 run to end the quarter, would be the only extended period of time when the Jimmies would have an edge.
Three total second quarter Jimtown points would send the game into halftime with the Wildcats up 36-15. Despite playing a much inferior opponent, Riley would shoot rather poorly in the first half totaling just 36 points. While a 21 point halftime lead may be fantastic for any team in any game, the Wildcats should have been up by much more.
A 28 point third quarter explosion put the game out of reach for good and the Wildcats would go on to win, 76-43. The win tied Riley’s best start in the school history.
Next up for the Wildcats, the crosstown (5-6) 3-4 Clay Colonials on Friday at Algie Oldham. Riley will be looking to start 14-0 for the first time EVER!
